How to Compare Nitrile Glove Prices and Landed Cost

A box price answers only one question: what the seller wants for that package. A procurement decision needs at least three numbers—cost per 100 gloves, delivered case cost and cost per completed task. The third figure captures the waste that a cheap but poorly fitted or frequently torn glove can create.
Quick answer: First normalize the same specification to cost per 100. Then add freight, tax, fees and handling to calculate landed case cost. Finally divide the landed cost plus measured waste by successful uses. Keep chemical, food, medical or other required documentation as a pass/fail gate, never as a price adjustment.
Step 1: cost per 100 gloves
cost per 100 = package price ÷ glove count × 100
A $14.00 box of 100 is $14.00 per 100. An $85.00 case of 1,000 is $8.50 per 100. This makes package counts visible, but it still does not make different grades, thicknesses or sellers equivalent.
Step 2: landed case cost
landed case cost = product + freight + tax + marketplace or payment fees + receiving and inspection cost
For imported or private-label supply, also include duty, brokerage, inland transport, packaging setup, inspection, financing and expected damage or shortage. Record whether the quote is EXW, FOB, delivered or another Incoterm. Two identical unit quotes can create very different cash and logistics obligations.
Step 3: cost per successful wear
cost per successful wear = (landed gloves + measured waste cost) ÷ completed approved uses
Count donning tears, wrong-size substitutions, premature changes caused by poor fit, task failures and unusable leftovers. Do not count required hygiene changes as waste; those are part of the process. The purpose is to distinguish necessary consumption from avoidable consumption.

Glove A remains cheaper in this example, but its advantage narrows from $1.30 to $0.81 per 100 once observed waste is included. If a wrong size or task mismatch also slows work, the buyer should measure that effect rather than inventing a value. The result can favor either glove; the method is the point.
Use compliance as a gate
A low price cannot compensate for a missing required claim or document. Before cost scoring, mark whether the exact SKU satisfies the intended use, food-contact requirement, examination category, chemical compatibility, customer specification or other applicable rule. A product that fails a required gate is not a cheaper alternative; it is outside the comparison.
Calculate annual demand by size and task
annual gloves = employees × approved changes per shift × shifts × operating days
Break the answer out by size and task lane. Add measured donning waste, seasonal peaks and safety stock. A single total can hide the most common stockout: plenty of gloves overall, but no Medium at the high-use station.
Do not hide payment and inventory risk

A simple buyer scorecard
Score only products that pass all mandatory requirements. A practical weighting for a recurring general-purpose program might be:
- 30% task performance and fit trial;
- 25% landed cost per usable 100;
- 15% size range and availability;
- 15% documentation and traceability;
- 10% lead-time reliability and backup supply;
- 5% account, returns and sales support.
Change the weights before opening bids, not after seeing which supplier wins. Chemical, medical or regulated programs may need stronger pass/fail gates and different weights.
Price comparison FAQ
Should nitrile glove buyers compare cost per glove or per pair?
Use one convention consistently. Retail listings usually state individual gloves, while operations often think in pairs. Label the unit clearly to prevent a twofold error.
Is free shipping really free?
It is part of the seller's total price structure. Compare the delivered total for the same destination and quantity.
Should employee time be included in glove cost?
Include only measured, defensible differences such as documented extra donning failures or interruptions. Do not invent productivity savings.
How often should glove prices be refreshed?
Refresh public channel prices monthly or quarterly and every contracted quote before renewal. Keep the observation date on every comparison.
